There have been attacks from Israel to the Palestinian Land of Gaza for the past two weeks. Students in Keluarga Middle School in Kudus, Central Java join the international world in expressing sympathy by writing letters.
Keluarga Middle School gathered a total of 178 letters. According to the school’s principal, Basuki, the project is a part of students’ social studies lesson. Letters will be sent to the war-torn area soon, with the help of the Palestinian Embassy in Jakarta.
Many only have short contents, such as “stop war”, “make peace”. However, some others have more sentences.
“I hope you can stay strong and forget what you experienced. I wish one day that my Palestinian friends will wear smiles on their faces again,” wrote Lucia, an eighth-grader.
Mr. Basuki further explained that students received some understanding before they wrote the letters. Students were aware about the human context of the war, and also that the war was not about religions.
